This is what a typical Gopher menu looks like. As you can see, the menu displays all relevant items. Each item has a small icon next to it.

In most Gopher menus,
the icon near each item's name represents the type of resource linked to it - a text file, a program that can be downloaded,
a graphic image, and so on.
An item can also represent a submenu. This type of item is called a directory.
